What is OPAT?

A state-funded program, Oklahoma Parents As Teachers (OPAT) is free and voluntary for ALL families with children from birth to age three. OPAT supports parents as their children's first teachers in building foundations for living and learning.

The program is designed to provide parents an opportunity to enhance their child's development in all areas:

• Language
• Intelligence
• Social and Emotional
• Physical

OPAT means a brighter future for your child

There are many life experiences which will influence learning. We hope your experience with Oklahoma Parents As Teachers will help your children for a successful future in school and beyond.

Your school can help

School partnership should begin when learning begins: at birth. This is the philosophy of Oklahoma Parents As Teachers because parents are their children's first and most influential teachers.

Your school is anxious to work with you as partners to help each child grow and develop to his or her maximum potential. Feel free to call your local school for information.

The OPAT program offers practical ideas and suggestions to make parenting even more fulfilling.

As a participant you will receive the following services:

• Group meetings with other parents to:
  • share parenting experiences,
  • discuss developmental stages, and
  • gain information and activities to stimulate your child's development.
• Home visits can be arranged.
• Information on:

  • health and safety,
  • positive reinforcement, and
  • how children learn from play.
• A resource and referral network will be available if special services are needed.
