The librarian's favorite is a book by Wilson Rawls called Summer of the Monkeys.

It's historical fiction
It takes place (is set) in Oklahoma Territory
Grandpa and Jay Berry have a wonderful relationship

It's a Sequoyah Award winner (from 1979)

Checkout Procedure

One book at a time
May have a second book if needed for a research project
Regular checkout is two weeks
Most reference books are overnight checkout or teacher checkout only
Most books may be rechecked
Return book to "book drop" when finished
Must return current book before checking out another
Find another good book and read, read, read!

The State of Oklahoma funds online research databases for public and school libraries in Oklahoma. Digital Prairie is the site to access these databases.

Full text articles
Searchable databases (text and pictures students may use with research projects)
EBSCO has child-oriented search tools called "Sarchasaurus" and "Kids Search"
Students may access at home, public library, or at school
