Superintendent Newsletter – May 2026
Dear Students, Families, Staff, and Community Members,
As we wrap up another incredible school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate the achievements, growth, and memories made throughout the year. Thank you for your continued support, partnership, and dedication to our school community.
This year has been filled with academic success, artistic creativity, athletic accomplishments, and meaningful connections. Our students have worked hard, demonstrated resilience, and continued to grow both inside and outside the classroom. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished.
As we prepare for the upcoming school years, we want to make you aware of several new pieces of state legislation that will impact public schools moving forward:
• HB 1276 continues the “Cell Phone-Free from Bell to Bell” requirement. Students will continue to keep personal electronic devices put away during the instructional day in order to support student focus, engagement, and learning.
• SB 1481 requires all elementary schools serving grades K–5 to provide at least 40 minutes of recess daily beginning next school year. We are excited to continue supporting student wellness, movement, and social development through expanded recess opportunities.
• HB 3151 increases the minimum number of instructional days required for Oklahoma public schools from 166 days to 173 days. This change will begin with the 2027–2028 school year and will add approximately three additional days to our annual school calendar.
• SB 1778 places a heavy emphasis on science-based reading instruction and imposes stricter requirements for student promotion to fourth grade.
• SB 201 increases the minimum teacher salary by $2,000 starting in the 2026-2027 school year.
We will continue to share updates and additional information as guidance becomes available. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our students, staff, and schools.
High School Graduation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at McIlvain Field. We hope you can join us in celebrating the graduating Class of 2026!
We are already excited for the 2026–2027 school year and look forward to welcoming everyone back in August. Additional information regarding schedules, registration, and back-to-school events will be shared over the summer.

School Board Leaders Recognized in January
Dedicated to public education, school board members across the state are committed to providing every opportunity possible to students in their community. January is School Board Recognition Month, providing local schools and communities with the chance to honor Oklahoma’s more than 2,500 elected school board members for their dedication and service.
Perkins-Tryon Public Schools currently have five school board members: Jessie Johnson, Becky Reedy, Darrick Rains, Brent Demuth, & Cassie Wilson.
“Our school board members not only share their time but their vision and voice to shape the direction of Oklahoma public education,” P-T Superintendent Doug Ogle said. “We are proud of our school board members and the dedication they have to making our district the best it can be. School Board Recognition Month is the time to say thank you and celebrate the accomplishments of our elected board members."
In Perkins-Tryon Public Schools, school board members develop policies and must make tough decisions on complex educational and social issues impacting the entire community. They bear the responsibility of managing an annual budget of $16 Million dollars for 1,616 students, 200 employees, and all our facilities.
“During School Board Recognition Month, we hope you will join us as we take the opportunity to acknowledge our local board of education,” Ogle said. “Throughout January help us celebrate these outstanding board members and their dedication to Perkins-Tryon Public Schools.”

Perkins-Tryon Public Schools Hires Demon Alumni KG Robinson as Director of Bands
This evening, the Perkins-Tryon Public Schools Board of Education approved Superintendent Mr. Doug Ogle’s recommendations to approve the hiring of KG Robinson as the High School Director of Bands.
“I am thrilled to be returning home to continue building on the outstanding tradition of excellence of the Perkins-Tryon band program. I look forward to once again working with the students, school, and community of Perkins, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds!” - KG Robinson

“I would like to thank the hiring committee that assisted me in this process. The success of the program made this a sought-out position with over sixteen applicants to choose from. Mr. Robinson demonstrates strong leadership, musical expertise, patience, and the ability to inspire and motivate students which set him apart from the other applicants. I look forward to watching Mr. Robinson grow our program and continue the traditions and high standards that the Midnight Regiment is known for.”
